It seems like an age since i posted here, And i think it’s about time i got back into writing articles here! Since my MDE was stolen last February i left the Hardtail game, and couldn’t think of anything to write about because of this.

Having just rebuilt my Beloved Kona Five-0 (Which is now 4 years old) I thought i’d share some photo’s with you guys, as well as making an appearance ;)

To start with, I got together any old parts i had lying around the Hosue, Starting with the 2004 Marzo z 150′s up front. As old skool as they are, they do lock out to 80mm which will help on the climbs, and run at 150 too which will be good on the DH’s. I then needed some wheels, a stem, saddle and post, and bars, so i got on the Phone to Andy Boyle and got some bargain bits off him, Including a pair of Sunn S-types, A 35mm truvativ stem and a SDG I beam ad fat seat all for less that £150. Unfortunatley Andy didn’t have any bars, But after replacing the bars on the Porco i had a set of Funn Full Ons so fitted them.

after this i needed brakes and gears. i got the old X7 parts off my Norco and fitted them asap. Sourcing a good set of brakes turned out easier than planned, When a good friend James Morgan gave me a set of Juicy sevens.

The majority of the parts came from my sponsor, Koo Bikes, At incredibly good prices, aswell as the cranks off the Norco and a Chainguide from Superstar. The specs are as follows: 2008 Five-0, sunn s-types, gravity cranks, bbb chain ring, Shimano 9speed chain, Sram X7 mech and shifter, Avid Juicy 7′s, Shimano M530′s, Intense Tyres, Truvativ Stem, Funn Bars, Sunline Grips, Hope adaptors, and Superstar Chain guide ( I may of forgotten a few bits)

Cheers Guys,
Lil Chris

Yesterday evening in Bridgewater, local South West rider Chris Lamley had both of his bikes stolen from the back of his Dad’s van while they were fast asleep inside, after racing the latest round of the Kustom Bikes DH series at Avill Ball earlier that day.

Anyone who knows Chris, knew how much his bikes and racing meant to him and along with his parents, who are familiar faces at the races supporting Chris along with helping run the Woodland Riders race series and dig days at Gawton.

For a while now i’ve been running Intense tires on Both my hardtail and my susser(Sorry guys) and Having ran Maxxis tires before, I think that the grip that these tires put out in any weather is unbelievable. I run a 2.5 Intense Intruder Front and a 2.35 Intense 909 FRO on the rear for my hardtail, and i’ve chosen this combo for the last 2 years, and have been able to ride, No fuss, no loss of traction in any weather. The rubber quality is amazing, although it’s a super sticky compund, The tires have Long life and i have only had to use about 3 sets since i changed onto Intense tires. They perform well what ever the weather and I think they are an amazing Tire choice that i would reccomend to anyone who asked, I own other tires such as Maxxis and Kenda, but none of them compare to the intense tires. The tires are availabe from Chainreactioncvycles in a range of sizes(all26″ im affraid) with a range of prices, and ubber types and My local shop, Dartmoor cycles for around £30, so Grab yoourself a bargain, and a hell of a tire set.

Left:Winter training On my intenses, The track conditions were poor and stodgy, But i still outgripped my Friends Choir Masters

Right:Racing the Unofficial Hardtail champs on the same tires, on a marginally dry track, that had a shoower of rain the previous day, And i still managed to grip the whole way down, Shame i ran out of skill and flipped it.

For over a year now, i’ve ridden Downhill and been dirt jumping Equipped with a Fox V3 MX lid. Most people would say it’s a motocross helmet, it’s too big or it’s too heavy, but i completely disagree, as its not as big as pictures make it seem, and it’s lighter than your average Troy Lee D2.

My V3 saved my head countless times, including a blow to the head from around 6-8foot, which wasn’t fun, But i got up from that and to everyone’s amazement finished and went back to the top!

After over a year of trusty service from My Lid i rode with it for the last time on Sunday, when i suddenly slipped on some ice and smashed my head on the biggest rock my helmet could locate. Since then the Helmet has been retired, but On order is a brand new one.

I would recommend this helmet to ANY downhill rider i met, because in my eyes it’s the greatest helmet in the world. Not only is it lightweight and strong, it’s also cheaper than most of its competition on the market today. My personal opinion is that anyone who wants a lightweight strong helmet, and doesn’t mind having an MX lid, should definitely opt for the Fox V3 rather than and MTB equivalent because, for the price you pay, you get a light lid, a lid that is as strong if not stronger, and one of the sickest looking helmets out there.  Most of the V3′s colour-ways are quite bright and leery, but there are mild ones out there too for all you simpletons.

In my opinion The Fox V3 is more than a Helmet, it’s the Greatest form of head protection in the world.

For those of you that don’t already know, the Kustom bikes race at Avill ball that should be on tommorow has been cancelled.

Don says, “Hi Everyone,

Due to the adverse weather conditions across the region I have decided to postpone the event until we have some better weather.

The forecast is for freezing temperatures and possibly more snow tomorrow so I feel it is best to call off the event in the interests of safety.

Conditions at the venue itself are not to bad so I will be running an uplift at Avill tomorrow for anyone who would still like to ride and doesn’t have too far to travel.

Those of you who have already entered can either transfer your entry to tomorrows uplift or to the rescheduled round 2 at Avill.

Thanks, Don”.
